Where three Interstates meet
Oklahoma's Roads Center on Oklahoma City
I-35, I-40 and I-44 all meet in Oklahoma City, one of the most important crossings in the US highway system. Out from that core, the state has ten turnpikes or major toll roads and the longest drivable stretch of old Route 66 in the country. More than 12,000 miles of road make up its main highway network.
Oklahoma weather can turn in a single day. Most of the state sits in Tornado Alley, and May is the wettest month, with frequent storms that are sometimes severe. Snowfall runs from under 4 inches a year in the south to just over 20 on the Panhandle's Colorado border, and from about Lawton west the land dries into semiarid high plains.
Whatever the day brings, a partner can handle the jump start, the flat or the tow.
Water over the road?
The National Weather Service warns that 12 inches of rushing water can carry away most cars, and 2 feet can carry away SUVs and trucks. Never drive around a barrier. The road underneath may have collapsed.
Oklahoma law
The Bernardo-Mills Law Protects Wreckers
Oklahoma's move-over law, 47 O.S. 11-314, is known as the Bernardo-Mills Law. It covers stopped emergency vehicles, state transportation and Turnpike Authority maintenance vehicles, any stopped vehicle showing flashing lights, and licensed wreckers with flashing amber or red and blue lights. On a highway with two or more lanes going your way, drivers must move to a lane that isn't next to the stopped vehicle if they can. If not, they must slow to a safe speed and pass with care.
The temperature crashed overnight and my battery's dead. Can you help?
If a partner covers your area, yes. They can jump the car where it sits. If the battery won't hold a charge after that, they can tow you to a shop nearby.
