FAQ

Towing and Roadside Questions, Answered Plainly

Common questions about towing with Sentinel, grouped by topic. Stuck right now? Skip the reading and call.

The one-line answer. Sentinel Towing is a network. A vetted local partner tow company does the job. We lock your price by text and stay with you until help arrives.

Calling and coverage

Who actually shows up in the truck?

A driver from a local tow company that partners with us. Before they arrive, you get their name, photo and truck by text. Sentinel doesn't own trucks. We run the call, the price and the updates.

Can I call at 3 in the morning?

Yes. Our line at 1-888-TOW-1213 answers 24/7, every day of the year.

Where do you work?

Across the US and Canada, as partners join. We're adding them city by city. If there's no partner near you yet, we'll say so on the call so you can try someone else right away. See the cities page.

Can you tow my car to another city?

No. Sentinel arranges local tows and roadside jobs, not long-distance moves. If your car can't be driven, a partner takes it to a shop near where it broke down, and we can suggest one on the call.

Can I send a request without calling?

Yes, on our online request form. Calling is still the fastest way to get a truck moving.

Price and paying

How do you figure out my price?

From what you tell us on the call: where you are, what you drive, what went wrong and where the car needs to go. Then we text you the price before any truck is sent.

What happens if the bill is more than my text?

You pay the texted price. Show the driver the text, or text us. Partners agree to honor it before they ever take a Sentinel job.

When and how do I pay?

You pay Sentinel, not the driver. After you say yes to your texted price, you pay a deposit by secure link, and we send a truck. The rest is charged when the job is done, and the total is never more than your texted price. If a driver at the scene asks you for money, don't pay. Call us.

Driver card and tracking

What's on a driver card?

Your driver's name, their photo and their truck. It comes by text as soon as a partner takes your job. More on the track your truck page.

How accurate is the truck tracking?

It follows your driver's phone and refreshes as they drive. It's not second-by-second, and weak signal can pause it. When it pauses, you see the last known spot and a new arrival time.

Why photograph my car before a tow?

So there's a record of how it looked before it was hooked up. The photos protect you and the partner, and they settle damage questions fast.

Texts and your privacy

Do I have to agree to texts?

No. Texts are optional, and saying no never affects your help. Without texts, we give you updates by phone.

How do I stop your texts?

Reply STOP to any text from us. Reply HELP for help.

Does the tow company get my text consent?

No, never. The partner doing your job gets what it needs to do that job, like your name, number and location. It may call you about the job. It never gets your text consent and can't market to you. Read our privacy policy.

Safety while you wait

Should I stay in my car or get out?

It depends on where you stopped. If you can get well away from traffic, like behind a guardrail or into a parking lot, that's often safest. On a busy road with nowhere safe to stand, stay buckled in with your hazards on. If you're in a live lane or anyone is hurt, call 911.

A tow truck I didn't call just pulled up. What do I do?

Check it against your driver card. If it doesn't match, don't hand over your keys or sign anything. Text or call us. If you feel unsafe, lock your doors and call 911.

Services and tow companies

What vehicles do you help with?

Light-duty ones: cars, SUVs, minivans and light pickups. See all six services.

What don't you do?

Heavy-duty trucks, RVs, motorcycles, long-distance tows, impounds and police rotation calls. We also don't cut keys, sell tires or charge electric cars.

I run a tow company. How do I join?

Apply on our partner page. We pay you for each job you complete, areas aren't exclusive, and every partner shows proof of insurance and licensing first.
