Towing in Greenville, From the Bypass to Uptown

Greenville's main freeway is the US 264 and NC 11 Bypass. It runs north from the Stantonsburg Road cloverleaf, crosses the Tar River and ends at US 13 north of the river. I-587 is the newest name, given in 2022 to the freeway that brings traffic in from I-95 near Wilson, ending at exit 73, the big cloverleaf at Stantonsburg Road.

In town, the busy roads are Memorial Drive, Greenville Boulevard, Arlington Boulevard, Red Banks Road, Charles Boulevard, 5th Street and Dickinson Avenue. East of town, US 264 becomes the Pactolus Highway and follows the river toward Washington.

Tell us which road and the nearest cross street. We send your price by text, then the nearest available vetted partner. That might be a jump start at Greenville Mall, a lockout in a lot on Arlington, or a tow off the Bypass to your mechanic.

  • Your car won't start in a Charles Boulevard lot after a Pirates game.
  • A tire goes flat on the Bypass on the way to a shift at the medical center.
  • You locked the keys in at a shopping center on Greenville Boulevard.
  • The engine dies at the I-587 cloverleaf at Stantonsburg Road.

Greenville city code

When Police Call a Tow, You Can Pick the Company

Here's a local rule worth knowing. Greenville's city code says that when police need your car towed, a driver who is present and not incapacitated may pick a tow service located within a reasonable distance. The officers on scene decide what's reasonable. That's Sec. 11-7-3 of the code.

If you aren't there, can't choose or have no preference, police use their rotation list. In an emergency, they may call the nearest truck.

So if an officer asks who should tow you and you'd like one of our partners, tell the officer, call us, and follow the officer's decision. We don't take police rotation calls, but we'll take yours.

Problem with a tow company?

The city regulates the tow companies on its police rotation list. Its Tow Services page lists the Parking Division number to report a tow company or driver who acted wrongly.

With us, your price is locked by text before dispatch. If the bill is higher, you pay the texted price.

Tar River weather

Summer Heat and a River That Floods

Greenville summers are hot and humid, and more than half the year's rain falls from June through November. Heat is rough on batteries, belts and tires that were already tired.

The Tar River is the bigger worry. In 1999, Hurricane Floyd dropped nearly 17 inches of rain and pushed the lower Tar past 500-year flood levels. Many people didn't know until water came into their homes, and an ECU football game had to move to Raleigh. In 2016, after Hurricane Matthew, the Tar overflowed its banks near Pitt-Greenville Airport and crested at 24.5 feet.

When a storm is coming, check DriveNC for closed roads. Never drive into water over the road. If your car stalls in water, get out and get to higher ground. Call us for the tow after the water drops.

ECU game days

Stuck After a Game at Dowdy-Ficklen?

Charles Boulevard is the main way in for Pirate games, and Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium holds 51,000 people. After a game, the lots and the road out are packed. A car that sat for hours with the radio on or the lights left on may not start.

Call and tell us the lot and a landmark near your car. Stay with the car so the driver can find you. You'll get the driver's name, photo and truck by text, plus a link to track your truck as it works through traffic.

On the Bypass or I-587, North Carolina's move over law tells drivers to change lanes away from a tow truck working on the shoulder, or slow down and be ready to stop if they can't.

Greenville questions

What Greenville Drivers Ask

Police are at my crash on Memorial Drive. Can I still call Sentinel?

Sometimes. Greenville's code lets a driver who is present and not incapacitated pick a tow service located within a reasonable distance, and the officers decide what's reasonable. Tell the officer you'd like one of our partners, then follow their decision. If they call the nearest truck, that's their call.

Is this Greenville, North Carolina or South Carolina?

This page is for Greenville, North Carolina and Pitt County. When you call, tell us the city and state so the right partner gets the job.

The river is up and my street is flooded. Can you tow my car now?

Not while the water is still over the road. It isn't safe for you or the driver. Get to high ground, then call us when the water drops. Your price comes by text before anyone is sent.

Can my parents get a text while I wait near campus?

Yes. Give us one number and we text them your location and when the truck should arrive. That's part of the Stay-With-You Promise.

Tow Truck and Roadside Services in Greenville

Sentinel is a 24-hour towing and roadside assistance network for Greenville drivers. Tell us what happened, and we send a vetted local towing company near you with a truck suited to the job: a tow truck for a car that can't be driven (a flatbed where the vehicle needs one, like many all-wheel-drive cars), or a service truck for a jump start, lockout, flat tire, fuel delivery or winch-out.

The Sentinel Stay-With-You Promise

Seven Promises on Every Greenville Call

Read the fine print on the promise page.

  1. We stay with you. From your call until the truck arrives, we check on you by text.

  2. See your driver before they arrive. You get their name, photo and truck by text, and you can track your truck on a map.

  3. Your family knows too. Give us one number, and we text them your location and arrival time.

  4. Photo-protected tow. Before hookup, your driver photographs all 4 sides of your vehicle. We text you the photos.

  5. Price locked by text. You get your price by text before we dispatch. That price is the most you pay for the job. If the job changes, we text a new price first and you decide.

  6. Never stranded after. Ride along in the truck when it's safe and allowed, or we help you get a ride. We also point you to a good repair shop.

  7. Free Sentinel Circle. After your first job, your vehicle is on file. Next time, just text "TOW" for priority dispatch.
