Towing in Fayetteville: I-295, the All American and Bragg Boulevard

Fayetteville's traffic runs to and from Fort Bragg, and most of it uses a few big roads. I-95 bypasses the city to the east and crosses the Cape Fear River. I-295, the Fayetteville Outer Loop, curves around the west and north side along the edge of the post. The All American Freeway runs from Owen Drive past Cross Creek Mall straight up to the base. Bragg Boulevard runs beside it.

Call and tell us where the car stopped. We text a locked price first, then send the nearest available vetted partner. It could be a jump start at the mall, a spare on the Outer Loop or a tow to a shop on Raeford Road.

  • Your truck won't turn over after a long weekend parked off post.
  • A tire blows on the All American at 5 a.m. on the way in.
  • The engine quits on I-95 just past the Cape Fear River bridge.
  • The battery's dead in the Cross Creek Mall lot.

The Outer Loop

Stuck on I-295? Give Us the Exit Number

I-295 is a four-lane divided freeway with a 65 mph limit. It starts at I-95 south of Hope Mills, loops past Raeford Road and Cliffdale Road, crosses the Cape Fear and rejoins I-95 near Eastover. Part of it carries the name Airborne and Special Operations Highway.

The exits are the fastest way to tell us where you are. Say the last one you passed and which way you were going. If you can't reach an exit, pull as far onto the shoulder as you can, turn on your hazards and stay buckled in.

North Carolina's move over law, G.S. 20-157, covers vehicles stopped to help with disabled cars. Drivers coming up must move out of the next lane when it's safe, or slow down and be ready to stop. That protects your driver while they work on the shoulder.

Fort Bragg

Broken Down On Post or Just Outside the Gate

The post went back to the name Fort Bragg in February 2025, after two years as Fort Liberty. Most of it sits inside Fayetteville's city limits, but it keeps its own gates, police, fire and EMS.

That matters for a tow. The visitor center at the All American access point, just north of I-295, issues passes for people who aren't with the Department of Defense. A civilian tow driver is one of those people. If you break down inside the gates, say so on the call, and plan for the gate to add time. If you can safely drive or coast off post first, do it.

Outside the gate is simpler. From Spring Lake to Hope Mills, a partner can come straight to you. We text your driver's name, photo and truck, and you can track the truck on a map.

Sandhills weather

Heat All Summer, Floods When a Hurricane Stalls

Fayetteville summers are long and hot. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for the airport show about 57 days a year at 90°F or hotter. Heat wears out batteries and cooling systems. If your temperature gauge climbs, pull over and shut the engine off before it boils over.

The bigger danger is water. Fayetteville sits on the Cape Fear River, and Cross Creek runs through town. After Hurricane Florence in 2018, the Cape Fear crested at 61.4 feet near Fayetteville, about 35 feet above flood stage. Stretches of I-95 and I-40 were impassable for days, and Hurricane Matthew closed parts of I-95 in 2016 too.

Never drive into water covering the road. You can't see how deep it is, or whether the road is still there. If the car stalls in water, get yourself out and to high ground. The tow can wait until the water goes down.

Before a storm

  • Fill the tank before the storm arrives, not during it.
  • Charge your phone and keep a car charger.
  • Check DriveNC for closed roads before you leave.

Towed from a lot?

Fayetteville's Private Lot Towing Rules

North Carolina has a special statute for private lots, G.S. 20-219.2, and it applies in Cumberland County and the City of Fayetteville. Here's what it says:

  • The lot must post signs at least 24 by 24 inches at every entrance, with the tow company's name and phone number.
  • The tow has to be requested in writing by whoever owns or leases the space.
  • The car must be stored within 15 miles, if storage exists that close.
  • You can't be made to sign a waiver to get your car back.

The Fayetteville Police Department says it isn't involved when a car is towed from private property, including business lots. Call the company on the sign. If police had your car towed, their towed vehicle page explains how to find it. We don't do impound releases, but if the car won't start once you get it back, call us.

Fayetteville questions

Questions From Fayetteville Drivers

Can a tow truck come onto Fort Bragg to get my car?

It can take longer. A civilian driver needs a visitor pass from the visitor center at the All American access point. Tell us you're on post when you call. If the car can safely move, getting it outside the gate is faster.

I'm deploying soon. Can you tow my car to storage?

If the storage lot is local and the car is light-duty, yes. Tell us the address when you call and your price comes by text first. We don't do long-distance moves between cities.

My car was towed from an apartment lot. Is that legal?

In Fayetteville, the lot needs signs at every entrance naming the tow company and its number. Call that company. The police department doesn't handle private lot tows.

Can my spouse get updates while I wait on I-95?

Yes. Give us one number and we text them where you are and when the truck should arrive. It's part of the Stay-With-You Promise.

Tow Truck and Roadside Services in Fayetteville

Sentinel is a 24-hour towing and roadside assistance network for Fayetteville drivers. Tell us what happened, and we send a vetted local towing company near you with a truck suited to the job: a tow truck for a car that can't be driven (a flatbed where the vehicle needs one, like many all-wheel-drive cars), or a service truck for a jump start, lockout, flat tire, fuel delivery or winch-out.

The Sentinel Stay-With-You Promise

Seven Promises on Every Fayetteville Call

Read the fine print on the promise page.

  1. We stay with you. From your call until the truck arrives, we check on you by text.

  2. See your driver before they arrive. You get their name, photo and truck by text, and you can track your truck on a map.

  3. Your family knows too. Give us one number, and we text them your location and arrival time.

  4. Photo-protected tow. Before hookup, your driver photographs all 4 sides of your vehicle. We text you the photos.

  5. Price locked by text. You get your price by text before we dispatch. That price is the most you pay for the job. If the job changes, we text a new price first and you decide.

  6. Never stranded after. Ride along in the truck when it's safe and allowed, or we help you get a ride. We also point you to a good repair shop.

  7. Free Sentinel Circle. After your first job, your vehicle is on file. Next time, just text "TOW" for priority dispatch.
