What Drives a Tow Price Near Fayetteville, NC

Near Fayetteville, NC, a tow price comes down to the route your driver has to take. Is your car on Fort Bragg or off post? Is your shop on the same side of the Cape Fear River? Is the road even open after a storm? Your vehicle and what went wrong count too. You get your price by text before any truck is sent, and you decide.
Why does the Fort Bragg gate closure matter for a tow?
For years, the All American Freeway was the easy way onto post. That changed this summer. Fort Bragg closed the All American Gate and the Gruber Road bridge at 5 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026. The post says the work could take up to 24 months.
The crews are replacing the Gruber Road bridge. They are also fixing the roadbed where it has settled near the Rock Merritt Road exit. The freeway is closed from the All American Gate to Zabitosky Road, both ways.
Here's what that means if your car quits inside the gates. A civilian tow driver needs a visitor pass. Fort Bragg gives passes to people without a Defense Department ID who have a valid reason, after a security check. The All American Visitor Control Center is still open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., every day. But your driver can't drive in through the All American Gate anymore. They have to come around to another gate.
A longer drive to reach you makes it a bigger job. So where you are on post shapes the trip, and the trip shapes the price.
Which gates are open right now?
Fort Bragg lists these hours, in effect since July 27, 2026:
- Open all day, every day: Canopy Lane, Yadkin Road, Long Street, Chicken Road, Honeycutt Road and R. Miller Road.
- Weekdays only, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.: Butner Road, Manchester Road and Rock Merritt. They close on weekends and federal holidays.
- Closed: the All American gate.
After the visitor center closes at 9 p.m., Fort Bragg says visitors can get a 1-day pass at the Canopy Lane gate until 5 a.m. Gate rules can change on short notice. Check the Fort Bragg roads page before you count on one.
How do I keep an on-post tow simple?
- Tell the dispatcher right away that you're inside the gates.
- Name the closest gate you know, like Canopy Lane or Yadkin Road.
- Give a building number or a road name, not just "near the PX."
- If the car still runs and it's safe, drive or coast off post first.
Fort Bragg has its own police, fire and EMS. If anyone is hurt on post, call 911 first.
Does the Cape Fear River change a Fayetteville tow?
It can, more than people expect. The river cuts along the east side of town. Only a few big roads cross it. If your car stops on one side and your shop sits on the other, the truck has to haul it over a bridge.
Two crossings come up a lot:
- I-95. It bypasses the city on the east. It crosses the river just north of the NC 87 interchange at exit 46.
- I-295, the Outer Loop. It crosses the river between Ramsey Street at exit 28 and River Road at exit 30. Then it ends at I-95 near Eastover.
Say you live off Raeford Road and your car dies on I-95 near Eastover. Your usual shop is clear across town. That's a long haul. A shop on the Eastover side would be a much shorter one. You can always move the car to your regular mechanic later, once you know what broke.
Not sure which shop to pick? Ask. Part of the Stay-With-You Promise is pointing you to a good repair shop.
Does I-95 work north of town change anything?
NCDOT has been widening I-95 north of Fayetteville. Its project page covers 16 miles, from Murphy Road at exit 55 in Cumberland County to exit 71 outside Dunn. The road goes from four lanes to eight. Construction began in 2019.
A work zone changes where a truck can safely stop and load. Lanes shift and ramps move. If you stop inside a work zone, say so on the call. Give the last exit you passed and whether you're heading north or south. Then your driver can plan the safest place to pull in. Check DriveNC for current road work before a long drive.
What if the road to my car is closed after a storm?
This is the part people forget. A tow needs an open road to reach you and an open road to your shop. After a hurricane in Fayetteville, that isn't a given.
Look at Hurricane Florence in 2018. NCDOT says parts of I-95 were closed from September 15. The whole road through the state didn't reopen until the night of September 23, after the water went down and crews made repairs. The NCDOT district that covers Cumberland County had 248 road closures. On October 2, 17 roads in the Fayetteville region were still impassable. One was NC 210 in Cumberland County, where culverts needed repair.
So a "simple" tow after a storm may need a long detour, or it may need to wait. Hurricane season runs through November 30, so this still matters this fall.
- Never drive into water on the road, or around a barricade.
- If your car stalls in water, get out and get to high ground. The tow can wait.
- When you call, say which roads near you are closed. That helps your driver find a way in.
Can tow prices go up during a hurricane?
North Carolina has a law against price gouging. The state Department of Justice says it kicks in when a state of emergency is declared by the Governor, the Legislature or a city or town. Hurricanes and flooding are two of the triggers. The Attorney General's Office can stop gouging and go after refunds.
When we checked on October 3, 2026, the department said no state of emergency was in place. Have a question about it? Call 1-877-5-NO-SCAM. It's toll-free from inside North Carolina.
What else goes into my price?
The route is the big local piece. These matter on every call:
- Your vehicle. A compact car loads fast. An all-wheel-drive SUV or a light pickup may need a flatbed.
- The problem. If the car just clicks, a jump start may get you going with no tow at all.
- Where it's stuck. A car in soft Sandhills sand off the shoulder may need a pull back to solid ground first.
- Where it goes. A shop, a dealer or home. Have the address ready.
If the car truly can't move, you need a car tow. We handle cars, SUVs, minivans and light pickups. We don't do RVs, motorcycles, heavy trucks or long moves between cities.
How does Sentinel lock a Fayetteville price?
Sentinel Towing is a towing and roadside network, not a tow company. A vetted local partner tow company does the work. You tell us where the car is, what it's doing and where it should go. We text your price before anyone is sent. That price is the most you pay for the job. If the job changes, like the car is deeper in the sand than you thought, we text a new price first and you decide.
Then we check on you by text until your truck arrives. You can track your truck on a map, too. For the main roads, exits and towns around the post, see our Fayetteville towing page.
If anyone is hurt or your car is stuck in a live lane, call 911 first. Sentinel is not an emergency service.

Fayetteville Tow Price Questions
Is a tow from inside Fort Bragg priced differently?
It can be. With the All American Gate closed, your driver may have to come around to another gate and get a visitor pass. A longer route makes a bigger job. If the car can safely leave post first, the job is simpler.
Why would crossing the Cape Fear River change my tow?
Only a few roads cross it, like I-95 and I-295. If your car and your shop are on opposite sides, the haul gets longer. A shop on the same side of the river keeps it shorter.
Can I get a tow when roads are flooded?
Only once there's a safe, open road to your car. After Florence, parts of I-95 near Fayetteville stayed closed for days. Get to high ground first, then call when the water goes down.
Will the price change after the driver shows up?
Not without your say. The price we text is the most you pay for that job. If the job turns out different, we text a new price first, and you choose.
