What Drives a Tow Price Near Bradenton, Florida

A tow near Bradenton has no one set price. It moves with four things: the miles, your vehicle, what went wrong and where the car sits. Around Bradenton, the miles are the big swing. Which I-75 exit you're near matters. So does the side of the Manatee River your shop is on, and whether a drawbridge sits between you. Manatee County also caps what a tow company can charge for a tow you never asked for.
What goes into a tow bill in Manatee County?
Manatee County's own code spells out the pieces of a tow bill. The list sits in its rules for tows done without the owner's consent. But the same pieces show up in almost any tow:
- Getting to you. The truck drives out to the scene.
- Time on scene. The county counts the first half hour, then time after that in 15-minute steps.
- Miles towed. Every full mile from your spot to where the car goes.
- Prep work. Jobs like dropping a driveshaft or changing a tire before the car can move.
- Storage. A daily charge if the car sits in a lot.
Your vehicle matters too. The county sets its caps by weight. A sedan or small SUV sits in the lightest class. Heavier rigs cost more to move.
So the cheapest tow is the short, clean one. A car that rolls, close to the road, headed to a nearby shop. Every step away from that adds to the bill.
Why does your I-75 exit change the price?
I-75 runs down the east side of Bradenton with four exits that matter here. Each one points to a different part of town.
| Exit | Road | Where it leads |
|---|---|---|
| 224 | US 301 | Ellenton and Palmetto, north of the river |
| 220 | SR 64 | Manatee Avenue, toward Manatee Memorial Hospital |
| 217 | SR 70 | 53rd Avenue West and the north side of Lakewood Ranch |
| 213 | University Parkway | The airport and Lakewood Ranch |
Say your car quits on the southbound side just past exit 220. Your shop is in Lakewood Ranch. That's a short haul down to exit 217. Now say the same car quits between exits 220 and 224, heading north. The truck has to come at you from the right side of the highway. Then it may have to turn around to get you home. Same car, same problem, more miles.
So when you call, give three things: the last exit you passed, your direction and the next exit ahead. That's how the driver plans the shortest route in and out. Before you drive, FL511 shows crashes and lane closures on I-75.
Is there road work near exit 217 right now?
Yes. FDOT's road work report for the week of October 4 to 10, 2026, lists a right-hand closure on eastbound SR 70 just before the I-75 interchange. It runs in the daytime for several weeks. Farther east, SR 70 is being widened from Lorraine Road to Bourneside Boulevard, with new roundabouts and new bridges over the Braden River. If you stall in a work zone, tell the dispatcher. The driver needs to know there may be no shoulder.
Does the Manatee River add miles?
It can. The river splits Bradenton from Palmetto. Three main crossings link them: I-75, the Hernando DeSoto Bridge carrying US 41 and US 301, and the Green Bridge on US 41 Business.
Here's where it bites. You live in Palmetto, but your mechanic is off Cortez Road. Your car dies near home. That tow crosses the river and runs the length of the city. A shop on your side of the river is a shorter haul.
Before you call, decide where the car goes:
- The nearest good shop on your side of the river.
- Your own mechanic, if they know the car or hold the warranty work.
- Home, if it's late and you'd rather sort it out tomorrow.
Do the island bridges change the job?
They can. Anna Maria Island has two bridges to the mainland. Cortez Road (SR 684) crosses into Bradenton Beach. Manatee Avenue (SR 64) crosses into Holmes Beach. Both are drawbridges. A tow from the island to a mainland shop crosses one of them.
FDOT is working on three bridges here right now: the Cortez bridge, the SR 64 bridge to Anna Maria and the Longboat Pass bridge on SR 789. Its report says to expect lane closures overnight, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. FDOT expects testing to wrap up in late 2026.
Cortez Road itself is under a long repaving job, from 86th Street West to west of 30th Street West. FDOT lists lane closures day and night, with the end set for late 2027. If you break down on that stretch, give the nearest cross street. "Cortez Road near 75th Street West" beats "Cortez Road."
Can you get free help on I-75 first?
Sometimes. FDOT runs Road Rangers, a free highway help patrol. FDOT has described its Southwest Florida patrol region as the area south of Tampa, including Sarasota. Road Rangers can change a flat, jump-start a car, give emergency gas, make minor repairs and clear stalled cars from travel lanes. On a cell phone, dial *347 to ask for one.
They patrol busy freeway stretches, so they won't reach every road, and one may not be close by. If a Road Ranger gets you rolling, you don't need a tow at all.
Off the interstate, the same idea holds. Tell the dispatcher what the car is doing, not just "I need a tow." A dead battery may only need a jump start. An empty tank may only need fuel delivery. The smaller job is the smaller price.
Who caps the price when a tow happens without your consent?
Sentinel doesn't do these tows, and we don't do impound releases. But these rules can save you money.
Manatee County's rate caps
Manatee County Code section 2-19-72 sets maximum rates when the tow starts in Manatee County and the owner didn't consent. The caps cover the trip out, time on scene, miles towed, prep work and daily storage. They also cap a few extras: covering your car's contents, after-hours access to grab your things and a paperwork fee if the car sits unclaimed past 24 hours.
Under section 2-19-73, tow operators must post those maximum rates at their office and storage lot where you can read them. They must also give you a legible, itemized bill when you ask. Ask for it every time.
Left your car at a bar overnight?
Section 2-19-74 covers lots at places licensed to serve drinks on site. Between 9 p.m. and noon the next day, the business must sign an order for your specific car before it can be towed. The order lists your plate, the time and the storage address. You can ask to see a copy.
Florida's private lot law
Under Florida law, s. 715.07, if you catch the tow truck before it leaves the lot, the driver must stop when you ask for your car. The fee to get it back is capped at half the posted rate. In most cases, the car must be stored within 10 or 15 miles of where it was towed, depending on the county's size. When you pick it up, you have the right to look the car over before you accept it. You can't be forced to sign a waiver for damage you point out.
How do you keep your price from changing on the roadside?
Give the full picture up front. Your exact spot, your vehicle, what the car is doing and where it should go. If a wheel is locked or the car is down in soft sand off the shoulder, say so. That may mean a winch-out before the tow, and it belongs in the price.
Sentinel Towing is a towing and roadside network, not a tow company. A vetted local partner tow company does the job. We text your price before we dispatch, and that price is locked. If the job changes, we text a new price first, and you decide. You can read how it works or see the Stay-With-You Promise. Our Bradenton towing page covers the bridges and storm season in more detail.
If anyone is hurt, or you're stuck in a live lane on I-75, call 911 first. Sentinel is not an emergency service. Turn your hazards on, and if you can get out safely, stand well away from traffic.

Bradenton Tow Price Questions
Why can't you give me a tow price for Bradenton before I call?
The price depends on your spot, your vehicle, what went wrong and where the car goes. A quick haul down I-75 is a different job from a tow off the island to a shop across the river. Call with the details, and we text your locked price before anyone is sent.
Does it cost more to tow from Anna Maria Island?
It often means more miles, because the car has to cross the Cortez bridge or the Manatee Avenue bridge to reach a mainland shop. Pick a shop close to the bridge you'll cross. Give the nearest cross street on Gulf Drive so the driver takes the closer bridge.
A tow company in Manatee County charged me more than I expected. What can I do?
If you didn't consent to the tow, the county caps the rates and the operator must post them at its office and lot. Ask for an itemized bill, which they must give you. County code violations can be enforced through code enforcement, and each one can carry a civil penalty.
Will a Road Ranger tow my car off I-75?
Road Rangers clear stalled cars out of travel lanes and help with flats, jump starts and gas. They are not a tow to your shop. If your car can't be fixed on the spot, you still need a tow.
