Towing in Springfield, MO, on the Freeways and the Big Streets
This page covers Springfield, Missouri, in the Ozarks. Looking for Springfield, Illinois? That's our Springfield, IL page.
Springfield, MO has two kinds of road to break down on: the freeways around town, and the big streets inside it. Tell us which one you're on, and a vetted local partner takes the job. Your price is locked by text before they leave.
The freeways
I-44 links Springfield with St. Louis and Tulsa. US 60 runs through town on the James River Freeway, and US 65 is the Schoolcraft Freeway. On any of them, stay in the car with hazards on and your belt fastened. If you're in a live lane, call 911 first, then call us for the tow.
The streets
Glenstone, National, Campbell, Sunshine, Battlefield and Chestnut Expressway are the major streets. A car that dies at a light on one of them may just need a jump start or a tire change, not a tow. Tell us the cross street.
Ozarks weather
Hot, Humid Summers and Weather That Turns Fast
Springfield sits on the Springfield Plateau, and its weather can swing hard. On May 1, 2013, the high hit 81 degrees. By the next evening, snow was falling. So keep a jacket and a charged phone in the car in every season.
Summer is the long test. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for the Springfield airport show about 40 days a year at 90 degrees or more, with July highs near 90. Late summer can get very humid. That's tough on batteries, radiators and tires. If your temperature gauge climbs on Glenstone in traffic, pull into a lot and shut it off.
Winter is shorter but not gentle. The station averages about 14 inches of snow and about 95 nights at or below freezing. The hills and cliffs on the south, east and north edges of town don't help on ice. Slid off a hilly road and not damaged? A winch-out may be all you need.
Check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map for closures before a winter drive.
Missouri law
Missouri Names Tow Trucks in Its Move-Over Law
Missouri's move-over law doesn't stop at police and ambulances. It counts a tow truck doing emergency work as an emergency vehicle. It also covers any stopped vehicle showing lighted amber, or amber and white, lights.
- On a road with four or more lanes, two going your way, move to a lane that isn't next to the stopped vehicle if it's safe.
- If you can't, slow down and keep a safe speed until you're past.
Read RSMo 304.022 on the Missouri Revisor of Statutes site. Your driver works close to traffic on I-44. That rule is what keeps them safe while they load your car.
Headed for the lake?
Table Rock, Stockton, Pomme de Terre and Fellows Lakes are all near Springfield. A battery drained by a long day at the boat ramp is a jump, not a tow. Run low on gas on the way back? Ask for fuel delivery.
