Tow truck help in Louisville

Towing in Louisville, Wherever the Car Quit

Louisville is a river city with a lot of highway. Three Interstates meet at one spot on the east side of downtown. Two beltways ring the city. Bridges carry traffic to Indiana. When a car stops in the middle of all that, you need help from someone who knows the roads.

Call and tell us what happened and where. We lock your price by text first. Then the nearest available vetted partner takes the job.

  • Your car dies in the tangle of ramps at Spaghetti Junction.
  • A tire blows on the Watterson on the way home.
  • The battery's dead in a lot off Bardstown Road.
  • You're stuck on the Sherman Minton, headed for Indiana.

Interstates and bridges

Spaghetti Junction, the Beltways and the Ohio River Bridges

Kennedy Interchange

I-64, I-65 and I-71 all meet here, just east of downtown. It's known as Spaghetti Junction. If you stop on a ramp, don't walk along it. Stay buckled with hazards on. If you're in a live lane, call 911 first.

Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln Bridges

These two carry I-65 across the Ohio side by side downtown. Tell us which bridge and which way you were headed. Your tow comes from the side it can reach safely.

Sherman Minton Bridge

I-64 comes over from New Albany on this bridge and enters the West End as the Riverfront Expressway. If you stall on the span, stay in the car. Tell us whether you were bound for Kentucky or Indiana.

I-264, the Watterson

The inner beltway. Its southern and eastern legs are the Henry Watterson Expressway. Give the nearest exit, like Bardstown Road or Preston Highway.

Dixie Highway, Bardstown Road and Preston Highway

US 31W, US 31E and KY 61 carry traffic out from the center. If the car won't start at a light or in a lot along one of them, a jump start may be all it takes.

I-265, the Snyder

The outer beltway, the Gene Snyder Freeway, also signed KY 841. In the northeast it crosses into Indiana on the Lewis and Clark Bridge. Note the last exit you passed.

Ohio Valley weather

Long, Hot Summers and Icy Winter Mix

Louisville summers run hot. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for the airport show about 43 days a year at 90 degrees or more, with July highs near 89. That heat is tough on batteries, belts and cooling systems. If the temperature gauge climbs in traffic on Dixie Highway, pull off and turn the engine off before it overheats.

Winter is milder than farther north, with about 13 inches of snow a year. The trouble is what falls with it. Winters here often bring a mix of rain, sleet and snow, and sometimes ice. A glazed ramp at the Kennedy Interchange or a slick hill in the Knobs down south can send a car into a ditch. If yours is stuck but not damaged, a winch-out may get you going.

Much of the city sits on the river's wide, flat floodplain. In a heavy storm, water can cover low roads fast. Never drive into it.

Kentucky law: move over

On a road with four or more lanes, Kentucky drivers must move a lane away from a stopped emergency or public safety vehicle with flashing lights, including yellow ones. The same rule covers a disabled car showing flashers, flares or reflective signals. If they can't move over, they must slow down.

Questions

Louisville Towing Questions

Can you tow me from Louisville to a shop in Indiana?

Often, yes. Name the shop in Jeffersonville, Clarksville or New Albany when you call. If a partner can make the trip, your texted price covers it.

My tire blew on the Watterson. Can you change it there?

Only if there's a safe place to work, away from traffic. If there is, a partner can do a tire change with your spare. If not, a tow to a safer spot comes first.

I'm locked out of my car downtown. Is that a tow?

No. That's a lockout. A partner comes to get you back in, with the price by text before they leave.

Will someone check on me while I wait on the Snyder?

Yes. We check on you by text until the truck arrives. Give us a family member's number and we'll text them your spot and arrival time too.

Tow Truck and Roadside Services in Louisville

Sentinel is a 24-hour towing and roadside assistance network for Louisville drivers. Tell us what happened, and we send a vetted local towing company near you with a truck suited to the job: a tow truck for a car that can't be driven (a flatbed where the vehicle needs one, like many all-wheel-drive cars), or a service truck for a jump start, lockout, flat tire, fuel delivery or winch-out.

The Sentinel Stay-With-You Promise

Seven Promises on Every Louisville Call

Read the fine print on the promise page.

  1. We stay with you. From your call until the truck arrives, we check on you by text.

  2. See your driver before they arrive. You get their name, photo and truck by text, and you can track your truck on a map.

  3. Your family knows too. Give us one number, and we text them your location and arrival time.

  4. Photo-protected tow. Before hookup, your driver photographs all 4 sides of your vehicle. We text you the photos.

  5. Price locked by text. You get your price by text before we dispatch. That price is the most you pay for the job. If the job changes, we text a new price first and you decide.

  6. Never stranded after. Ride along in the truck when it's safe and allowed, or we help you get a ride. We also point you to a good repair shop.

  7. Free Sentinel Circle. After your first job, your vehicle is on file. Next time, just text "TOW" for priority dispatch.
