Towing in El Paso: I-10, the Spaghetti Bowl and Loop 375
Your battery dies in a parking lot on Montana Avenue at 11pm. Your engine quits on I-10 near the Spaghetti Bowl, where I-10, I-110 and the Patriot Freeway tangle together. A tire blows on Transmountain with the Franklin Mountains on both sides. That's when you call.
I-10 is the backbone of the city. It comes in from Anthony, runs down the west side past Sunland Park Drive, cuts past downtown and heads southeast along the Rio Grande toward Fabens. The Patriot Freeway, US 54, runs north past Fort Bliss. Off the freeways, Montana Avenue, Paisano Drive, Alameda Avenue, Zaragoza Road and Lee Trevino Drive are the big routes.
Tell us where you are and what the car is doing. We text you a locked price, then send the nearest available partner. It might be a jump start in that Montana Avenue lot, a spare on Transmountain, or a tow off I-10 to your shop.
Loop 375 has five names
Use the one on the signs near you, and your driver will know where to go:
- Transmountain across the Franklins, from I-10 near Canutillo to the Northeast
- Purple Heart Memorial Freeway around Fort Bliss in the Northeast
- Joe Battle Boulevard through the East Side down to I-10
- César Chávez Border Highway along the river into downtown
- Border West Expressway between UTEP and the border
Areas we cover around El Paso
Which Side of the Mountain Are You On?
The Franklin Mountains almost split El Paso in two. The two halves meet downtown, at the south end of the range, and Transmountain crosses over the top between the West Side and the Northeast. So the first thing to tell us is which side you're on. Here's what we cover on each:
- Central El Paso: Downtown, Sunset Heights, Segundo Barrio, the Magoffin area, and the UTEP and Kern Place neighborhoods.
- West Side and Upper Valley: Coronado Hills, Country Club, Three Hills and Canutillo, out to Anthony at the state line.
- Northeast: the neighborhoods off Dyer Street and the Patriot Freeway, around Fort Bliss.
- East Side: the big stretch north of I-10, east of Airway Boulevard and south of Montana, plus Horizon City.
- Mission Valley: Ysleta, Socorro and San Elizario, down along the river.
- Across the New Mexico line: Sunland Park and Santa Teresa.
Farther out, past Fabens or toward Vinton, it depends on whether a partner can get to you. We'll tell you on the call. One firm rule: tows stay on the US side. We can't send a truck across the international bridges into Ciudad Juárez.
Texas law after a crash
Fender Bender on I-10? Move It to the Frontage Road
Texas has a rule for minor freeway crashes. Under Transportation Code 550.022, if you have a crash with only vehicle damage on a freeway in a metropolitan area like El Paso, and every car involved can still be driven normally and safely, each driver has to move off the freeway as soon as possible. That means a frontage road, the nearest cross street or another safe spot.
In El Paso, the I-10 frontage roads have names: Desert Boulevard on the West Side and Gateway Boulevard through Central and the East Side. Pull onto one, then trade information there, not in a live lane.
If your car can't drive, or anyone is hurt, the rule doesn't ask you to move it. Turn on your hazards, stay buckled in and call 911 first. Then call us for the tow.
Sun City weather
Heat, Spring Dust and Summer Storms
El Paso gets sun most days of the year, and it gets hot. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for the airport show about 99 days a year at 90°F or above, and about 14 days at 100 or hotter. That's rough on batteries, belts and tires that were already tired.
Spring brings wind. Between March and early May, dust and sand storms can roll across the city and wipe out visibility. If one hits while you're driving, the National Weather Service says to get off the pavement as far as you can and stop. Then set the parking brake, turn off your lights and take your foot off the brake pedal, so your taillights aren't lit.
Summer brings monsoon storms from June into September. Many parts of El Paso can flood during an intense storm, even though the yearly rainfall is low. Don't drive through water you can't see the bottom of. If the car stalls in it, get yourself safe first. The tow can come once the water drops.
El Paso questions
What El Paso Drivers Ask Us
Can you tow my car across the border to Juárez?
No. Tows stay on the US side. If your car broke down in El Paso, a partner can take it to a home or shop in El Paso or a nearby town like Socorro or Sunland Park.
My car died in the Spaghetti Bowl. What do I tell you?
Which road you're on (I-10, I-110 or the Patriot Freeway), which direction you were headed and the last exit you passed. Stay in the car with your hazards on. If you're in a live lane and can't move, call 911 first.
Do you cover the Northeast and the East Side?
Yes. Both are in the area we cover, along with Horizon City. Give us the street and nearest cross street, or the Loop 375 section and nearest exit.
It's 100 degrees and I'm waiting on the shoulder. What should I do?
If it's safe to run the AC, stay in the car with your belt on. If not, get well away from traffic and find shade. We text you the driver's name, photo and truck, and you can track the truck on a map, so you'll know when to head back.
What does the Stay-With-You Promise cover?
Check-ins by text until the truck arrives, your driver's details before they get there, a text to your family if you want one, photos of your car before hookup and a price that can't go up. Read the full promise.
