Towing in Tallahassee: One Road, Two or Three Names
In Tallahassee, the highway number on your map and the street name on the sign often don't match. US 27 comes in as Monroe Street, then turns east at the Capitol and leaves as Apalachee Parkway. US 90 is Tennessee Street on the west side and Mahan Drive on the east. US 319 runs up the east side as Thomasville Road and Capital Circle.
When you call, the street name is what helps. Tell us that, your direction and the nearest cross street or I-10 exit. We lock your price by text, then send the nearest available vetted partner.
It might be a jump start in a lot off Tennessee Street, a lockout at Governor's Square, or a tow off I-10 to your shop.
Storms and trees
Big Oaks, Hilly Streets and Storms That Knock Out Power
Tallahassee is hilly for Florida, at the south end of the Red Hills, and it's known for canopy roads lined with live oaks. Those trees are beautiful until a storm brings them down.
The city has seen it more than once. Hurricane Hermine hit directly in 2016 and knocked out power to about 80% of the city. Hurricane Michael passed to the west in 2018 and left 95% of Leon County without power. In 2015, a tornado near Maclay Gardens dropped a tree onto a car. In May 2024, two tornadoes touched down, one right through downtown.
If a tree or a power line is down on your car or across the road, stay away from the wires and call 911 first. Partners move cars, not trees or power lines. Once the road is safe and clear, we can send a winch-out for a car that slid off a wet shoulder, or a tow for one that won't drive.
- Heavy rain: low spots can flood fast, including the Franklin Boulevard area by downtown and Killearn Lakes on the north side. Don't drive into water you can't see through.
- After the storm: expect limbs and debris on canopy roads. Go slow and give work crews room.
- Before it hits: check FL511 for closed roads and fill the tank early.
Heat and the odd freeze
Long Summers, With a Few Cold Snaps
Tallahassee summers are long. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for the airport show about 87 days a year at 90°F or hotter. Heat drains weak batteries, and a car that sat all day in an FSU or FAMU lot may not start at night.
Winters are mild, but the airport still averages about 29 nights at or below freezing. Snow is rare, though 1.9 inches fell in January 2025. On a cold morning, a battery that was already weak can quit, so start with a jump before you pay for a tow.
Car towed in Tallahassee?
What the City Says About Private Tows
If your car was towed, start with the Tallahassee Police towing page. It links a search tool, and the property owner has to post the tow company's name and phone number. We don't do impound releases, but the city's rules are worth knowing:
- Signs at each entrance need "TOW-AWAY ZONE" in reflective letters, plus the tow company's name and phone number.
- At apartment and other multi-unit properties, "roam" tows without a specific request from the owner are only allowed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- If you get to your car before it's physically hooked up, you're entitled to have it released without charge.
- Storage can't be charged for the first 24 hours.
The page also lists a towing administrator for complaints.
Small crash? Clear the road
Florida's s. 316.061 says that if a damaged car is blocking traffic, the driver must make every reasonable effort to move it, or have it moved. Moving it doesn't, by itself, make you at fault.
If it won't move, hazards on, stay buckled, and call 911 if anyone's hurt. Then call us.

Tallahassee questions
Tallahassee Drivers Ask
My car was towed from my apartment complex overnight. Is that allowed?
It can be. City rules let apartment properties allow roam tows without a specific request, but only from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The sign at the entrance has to name the tow company, so call them first. If something seems wrong, the TPD towing page lists who handles complaints.
A tree came down across my car in a storm. Can you tow it?
Call 911 first if power lines are involved or anyone is hurt. Once the tree is off and the area is safe, a partner can tow the car to a shop or body shop. Your price comes by text before anyone is sent.
My car won't start after a game at Doak Campbell. Can you help?
Yes. Tell us the lot or garage and a landmark near the car. Game traffic can slow the truck down, so stay with the car and watch the map link we send.
Can you text my parents that I'm OK while I wait?
Yes. Give us one number and we'll text them your location and when the truck should arrive. It's part of the Stay-With-You Promise.
