Towing in Saskatoon: Circle Drive and the River Crossings
The South Saskatchewan River splits Saskatoon in two, so the first thing to tell us is which side of the river you're on. Add the nearest bridge or cross street, and we can get the right partner moving.
Circle Drive
Circle Drive is the ring road, and it carries both Highway 16 and Highway 11. Most of it is a full freeway. The exception is the stretch between Airport Drive and Millar Avenue, where you'll hit traffic lights and at-grade crossings. Between Millar Avenue and Avenue C North it drops to an arterial road with businesses along it. A stall at one of those lights is a tow call. Don't try to coast through.
In the southeast corner, Highways 11 and 16 meet at a cloverleaf. On a cloverleaf ramp, there's little room. If the car dies there, hazards on and stay belted in.
The rail crossings
Canadian Pacific tracks run close to downtown and cross main streets at grade: 3rd Avenue and Warman Road, Idylwyld Drive, 22nd Street, Avenue H, 20th Street and Avenue P. If you ever stall on the tracks, get out and away first. Then call 911 and us.

Cold Enough That Road Salt Stops Working
Saskatoon is dry but very cold. Environment Canada's 1981 to 2010 normals for the airport show only about 91 cm of snow a year, yet lows fall below minus 20 C on about 47 days and below minus 30 C on about 14. Wind chill drops below minus 30 on about 39 days a year.
Here's a detail worth knowing. The city says salt and liquid de-icer only soften ice above minus 12 C. Below that, salt does little, so ice at intersections, ramps and bridge decks can stay slick.
- What gets plowed first. After a snow event of 5 cm or more, Priority 1 roads come first. That's freeways, major arterials and bridges like Circle Drive, Idylwyld Drive, 22nd Street and College Drive. Clarence Avenue, McKercher Drive and Millar Avenue are Priority 2. Residential streets aren't graded after every snowfall.
- Stuck on a rutted side street? If you're not damaged, a winch-out pulls you free without a full tow.
- Deep cold mornings. A battery that just clicks at minus 30 needs a jump start. Plug in the block heater the night before if you have one.
- Summer storms. Saskatoon's summer thunderstorms can bring torrential rain, hail and high winds. Don't drive into water over a road. If your car stalls in it, stay put and call.
Saskatoon Street Rules and the Slow to 60 Law
You can park on any city street for up to 72 hours unless signs say otherwise. Cars that block street sweeping or a snow route get towed out of the way to a nearby street. The city can also boot and seize vehicles, from public or private property, for things like unpaid fines. Seized cars go to the Municipal Impound Lot at 150 Jonathon Avenue. Details are on the City of Saskatoon vehicle seizures page.
Out on the highway, Saskatchewan drivers must slow to 60 km/h to pass a tow truck stopped with amber or amber and blue lights flashing. It doesn't apply to oncoming traffic on a divided highway. It's in the SGI driver's handbook. And before a winter drive, check the Highway Hotline. "Travel Not Recommended" there means visibility under 250 m, or a road that could become impassable.

Saskatoon Towing Questions
My car is at the city impound lot and won't start. Can you help?
The city lets a licensed recovery service, like a tow company, come to the lot on your behalf to boost a battery, inflate a tire or move the car to private property. Personal vehicles can't do it for you. Call us and we'll tell you if a partner can.
I'm heading to Warman on Highway 11 and the car died. What now?
Get as far onto the shoulder as you can, hazards on, and stay inside. Call us with the nearest crossroad or town. We text you the price first, then your driver's name, photo and truck, and you can track your truck on a map.
Does anyone tell my family where I am?
If you want. Give us one phone number, and we text that person your location and when the truck should get there. It's part of the Stay-With-You Promise.
