Prince Albert tow truck help

Towing in Prince Albert Starts With the Bridge

Prince Albert has one road across the North Saskatchewan River: the Diefenbaker Bridge. It's the only vehicle crossing in the city, and the only one within 120 km in either direction. Highways 2 and 3 share it, running together for 1.7 km before they split at the Highway 55 interchange.

That makes a stall on the bridge a big deal. If your car quits on the deck, don't get out into traffic. Turn your hazards on, stay belted in, and call. Tell us whether you were heading north or south, and we'll send a tow from the right side of the river.

Most of the city, and most of its shops, sit on the south shore. The north side has a few neighborhoods, an industrial area and the airport. Tell us which side you're on. We text you the driver's name and photo, and you can track your truck across the bridge.

When the bridge had trouble

In August 2011, cracks turned up in one of the bridge's girders during an inspection, and the southbound lanes closed. With no other crossing nearby, drivers faced a long detour. If the bridge is ever restricted again, check the Highway Hotline before you set out. It covers Prince Albert East and Prince Albert West as separate districts.

Gateway to the North

The Highways In and Out of Prince Albert

The mining, exploration, and oil and gas work across northern Saskatchewan sends heavy trucks through Prince Albert every day. Give them room, and pull well off the road before you call.

Highway 2 north to the lakes

North of town, Highway 2 is divided for 11 km, then heads past Christopher Lake and the turns for Prince Albert National Park and Waskesiu Lake, then on to La Ronge. There are fewer roads once you're into the boreal forest. Fill up before cottage weekends. If you run dry, ask for fuel delivery.

Highway 11 south to Saskatoon

The Louis Riel Trail is twinned all the way from Saskatoon, past Duck Lake and MacDowall, and ends at Highway 2 just south of the city. Call from the shoulder with the nearest town or grid road.

Highway 2 south to St. Louis

South of the city, Highway 2 crosses the South Saskatchewan River near St. Louis on its way to Moose Jaw.

Highway 3 west and east

West, Highways 3 and 55 run together 43 km to Shellbrook. East, Highway 3 runs 96 km to Melfort.

Highway 302 and 15th Street

Highway 302 comes in as 15th Street. Along the river near the Saskatchewan Penitentiary, it has had landslides. If the road looks broken or slumped, stop well back and call.

Deep Cold, Wildlife and Blizzards

Environment Canada's 1981 to 2010 normals for the Prince Albert airport put the average January low at about minus 23 C. Lows drop below minus 20 C on about 58 days a year and below minus 30 C on about 20. Freezing rain or drizzle shows up on about 11 days, and fog on about 31.

  • Batteries. At minus 30, a weak one won't crank. A jump start is the first try.
  • Wildlife. The Buckland Wildlife Management Unit is within 4 km of the city. SGI says collision risk runs high in May and June and again in late fall and early winter, and peaks at dawn and dusk.
  • Blizzards. SGI's advice is simple: always stay with your vehicle. Many people die walking for help in a blizzard.

Snow route parking bans

When more than 4 inches of snow falls at once, the city can declare a parking ban on its Priority 1 snow routes. Bans start at 9 a.m. or 4 p.m. and usually last no more than 48 hours. Cars left on the street risk fines and towing. See the City of Prince Albert page.

On the highway, slow to 60 km/h when you pass a tow truck stopped with amber lights flashing. That's Saskatchewan law.

Prince Albert Towing Questions

My car died at the cabin near Christopher Lake. Can you reach me?

Call and give us the road name or a pin from your phone. We'll tell you right away which partner can reach you, and text the price before anyone drives out.

The city impounded my car. Can Sentinel get it out?

No. Release goes through the Parking Counter at City Hall, and you have 30 days to reclaim it. If it won't start once it's released, call us for a jump or a tow.

I hit a deer on Highway 2. What should I do?

If anyone is hurt or the car is in a lane, call 911 first. If the car won't drive, we'll send a tow. Before hookup, your driver photographs all 4 sides of it, which helps with an insurance claim. That's part of the Stay-With-You Promise.

Sentinel is a 24-hour towing and roadside assistance network for Prince Albert drivers. Tell us what happened, and we send a vetted local towing company near you with a truck suited to the job: a tow truck for a car that can't be driven (a flatbed where the vehicle needs one, like many all-wheel-drive cars), or a service truck for a jump start, lockout, flat tire, fuel delivery or winch-out.

Seven Promises on Every Prince Albert Call

Read the fine print on the promise page.

  3. Your family knows too. Give us one number, and we text them your location and arrival time.

  4. Photo-protected tow. Before hookup, your driver photographs all 4 sides of your vehicle. We text you the photos.

  6. Never stranded after. Ride along in the truck when it's safe and allowed, or we help you get a ride. We also point you to a good repair shop.

  7. Free Sentinel Circle. After your first job, your vehicle is on file. Next time, just text "TOW" for priority dispatch.
