Tow truck help in Omaha

Towing in Omaha, Freeway by Freeway

Most people get around Omaha by car, on I-80, I-480, I-680, I-29 and US 75, plus the West Dodge Road freeway. When you break down on one, tell us which one, which way you were headed and the nearest exit. We lock your price by text, then a vetted local partner takes the job.

I-80

I-80 crosses the metro east to west. On the shoulder, stay inside with your belt on and hazards going. If you're in a live lane or anyone's hurt, call 911 first. Then call us for the tow.

I-480 and I-680

These are Omaha's other two Interstates. On either one, wait in the car with your belt on and give us the nearest exit.

US 75, the JFK and North Freeways

US 75 runs as the North Freeway and the JFK Freeway. Give us the freeway name plus the nearest street. It helps the driver pick the right ramp.

West Dodge Road

US 6 runs out West Dodge Road, built to freeway standards from I-680 out toward Fremont. Farther in, several of the city's hospitals sit along Dodge Street. If your car quits near one, tell us the building name.

I-29 and the river crossings

I-29 is part of the metro's freeway network too. If you're near the Missouri River, say which bridge you're by and which state you're in.

Areas We Cover Around Omaha

Omaha is usually split into six areas: Downtown, Midtown, North, South, West and East Omaha. Call from any of them, or from the towns around the metro.

Downtown and Midtown

The Old Market, the rest of downtown and Midtown. Parking garages can have low entrances. Tell us the clearance if you know it.

The old annexed towns

Florence, Dundee and Benson joined Omaha around the start of the 1900s. Elkhorn joined in 2007.

West Omaha

Miracle Hills, Boys Town, Regency and Gateway.

South Omaha

All of South Omaha, including the Dahlman and Burlington Road neighborhoods.

North and East Omaha

North Omaha, plus East Omaha on the river's flood plain, around Carter Lake and Eppley Airfield.

Across the river

Council Bluffs and Carter Lake, Iowa. Tell us you're on the Iowa side when you call.

Nearby, we cover Bellevue, Papillion, La Vista, Ralston, Chalco, Gretna, Bennington and Valley. Before your driver arrives, you get their name, photo and truck by text, and you can track your truck on a map.

Eastern Nebraska weather

Bitter Winters, Stormy Summers

Omaha has no big lake or mountain range to soften its weather. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for Eppley Airfield show what that means for a car:

  • Deep cold. January lows average about 15 degrees, and about 9 nights a year hit zero or below. That's when weak batteries give out. A jump start usually gets you going.
  • Steady freeze. On about 40 days a year the high never climbs past 32. Snow and ice can linger. If you slide into a ditch and the car's fine, a winch-out may beat a tow.
  • Moderate snow. About 27 inches falls in a normal year. Clear your tailpipe if you're stuck with the engine running.
  • Hot, humid summers. About 33 days a year reach 90 or more. July humidity feeds frequent thunderstorms. Never drive into water over the road.

Before you drive in a storm, check Nebraska 511 for closures.

Nebraska's move-over rule

On a controlled-access highway like I-80 or I-680, Nebraska drivers must move over a lane for a stopped vehicle on their side when there's room, or slow down when there isn't. It applies to any stopped car with someone in it or near it, not just emergency vehicles.

So stay with your car. Read section 60-6,378 on the Nebraska Legislature site. It's Nebraska law, so it doesn't cover the Iowa side of the river.

Questions

Omaha Towing Questions

Can you tow me across the river to Council Bluffs?

Often, yes. Tell us where the car needs to go. If a partner can make the trip, the price you get by text covers it.

My car died on the North Freeway. What should I tell you?

Say North Freeway, the direction you were going and the nearest street or exit. Stay inside with the hazards on. If you're blocking a live lane, call 911 first, then call us.

How do I describe where I am on Omaha's grid?

Omaha runs about 12 blocks to the mile, so the nearest numbered street and cross street go a long way. Better yet, share your location from your phone during the call.

My car won't start in the lot at Eppley Airfield. Can you help?

Yes. Tell us which lot and row. A partner brings a jump pack, and your price is locked by text before they come.

What happens while I wait?

We check on you by text until the truck arrives, and we can text a family member your location too. That's our Stay-With-You Promise.

Tow Truck and Roadside Services in Omaha

Sentinel is a 24-hour towing and roadside assistance network for Omaha drivers. Tell us what happened, and we send a vetted local towing company near you with a truck suited to the job: a tow truck for a car that can't be driven (a flatbed where the vehicle needs one, like many all-wheel-drive cars), or a service truck for a jump start, lockout, flat tire, fuel delivery or winch-out.

The Sentinel Stay-With-You Promise

Seven Promises on Every Omaha Call

Read the fine print on the promise page.

  1. We stay with you. From your call until the truck arrives, we check on you by text.

  2. See your driver before they arrive. You get their name, photo and truck by text, and you can track your truck on a map.

  3. Your family knows too. Give us one number, and we text them your location and arrival time.

  4. Photo-protected tow. Before hookup, your driver photographs all 4 sides of your vehicle. We text you the photos.

  5. Price locked by text. You get your price by text before we dispatch. That price is the most you pay for the job. If the job changes, we text a new price first and you decide.

  6. Never stranded after. Ride along in the truck when it's safe and allowed, or we help you get a ride. We also point you to a good repair shop.

  7. Free Sentinel Circle. After your first job, your vehicle is on file. Next time, just text "TOW" for priority dispatch.
