What Drives a Tow Price Near Rupp Arena or Kroger Field on a UK Game Day in Lexington

On a UK game day in Lexington, a tow is still priced by the job: where the car sits, where it goes, what you drive and what broke. The game changes the setting around that job. Kroger Field lots fill up, nearby streets turn into tow-away zones, and downtown garages around Rupp Arena get packed. Know those rules, and you can often keep a dead battery from turning into a tow.

Does a UK game make a tow cost more?

We can't point you to any official rule that says so. So we won't claim it. What we can tell you is what goes into every tow quote, game day or not.

  • Where the car is. Which lot, which level of which garage, or which street.
  • Where it needs to go. Home, your mechanic, or a shop close by.
  • What you drive. A compact car, a big SUV or a light pickup.
  • What went wrong. Dead battery, flat tire, locked keys, or a car that won't move at all.
  • How easy it is to reach. An open spot on a flat lot is simple. A car boxed in by tailgate tents is not.

Game day touches the first and last items most. Your car may be parked somewhere a truck can't easily get into. Or it may be sitting in a spot that becomes a no-parking zone in a few hours.

What happens if my car is in a Kroger Field lot on game day?

UK clears a lot of campus parking before a home football game. If you're a student or employee, these rules matter most.

  • Cars in the Red and Blue lots, Commonwealth Drive, College Way East and West, Sports Center Garage and Sports Center Drive must move before 7 a.m. on game day.
  • Cars in the Green Lot must move before 10 p.m. the night before.
  • University Drive has no parking starting at midnight on game day.
  • On game day, the Red, Blue, Green and Orange lots are no-parking zones for student and employee permits. That includes the meters.

UK says a car that isn't moved can get a ticket or be impounded. Fans can start parking in the Kroger Field lots at 8 a.m.

So here's the trap. Your battery dies in the Blue Lot on a Friday night. You leave it, planning to deal with it in the morning. By then, it's in a game-day no-parking zone. Deal with it that night if you can.

My car got towed from a UK lot. Who do I call?

UK's parking page says to call UK Transportation Services at 859-257-5757 if your car may have been impounded from a UK lot, garage or other UK property. Sentinel doesn't do impounds. Once you get your car back, if it won't start, we can help with a jump or a tow to a shop.

Which streets near campus turn into tow-away zones?

In past seasons, UK and Lexington police posted a game-day no-parking rule for streets on and near campus. It ran from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, and it covered away games too. UK said any car in violation would be towed.

The streets on that list included:

  • State Street, University Avenue and Crescent Avenue
  • Forest Park Road and Floral Park
  • Parts of Elizabeth Street near Waller Avenue

That list came from an older season, so read the signs on the block before you leave your car. If your car breaks down on one of these streets on a Saturday, get it moved fast. A jump start that gets you rolling beats a trip to the impound lot.

Police and LexPark tows in Lexington go to a lot at 757 E. Seventh St. You need your driver's license and proof of registration to pick it up.

Can a tow truck get to me in game traffic?

It can, but the roads around Kroger Field run differently that day. UK sends fans down set routes into each lot. Those routes use roads like Tates Creek Road, Alumni Drive from New Circle Road, Cooper Drive, Nicholasville Road and Richmond Road. Traffic staff sort and direct cars as they come in.

A few things help your driver find you:

  1. Name your lot by color. Say "Orange Lot, back row near the RV area," not "the stadium."
  2. Give a cross street. Cooper Drive at Sports Center Drive is easier than "by the field."
  3. Keep the drive lane open. UK already asks tailgaters to keep lanes clear for cars and emergency traffic. That lane is how a truck reaches you.
  4. Stay off Hospital Drive. On game day, the stretch from Limestone to University Drive is closed to all but emergency room traffic.

Downtown is its own puzzle. Lexington has no controlled-access road into downtown, so Rupp Arena traffic all funnels onto surface streets. Pick a clear meeting spot before you call.

What if my car dies in a garage near Rupp Arena?

Parking garages are the hardest place to tow from. The ceilings are low. LexPark lists the 350 West Short Garage, the one with the Pedway into Rupp Arena, at a max height of 6 feet 7 inches. Tell us the garage name and the level when you call.

Most garage calls don't need a tow anyway. A dead battery after a long night game is the classic one. UK's 2026 home schedule lists night kickoffs against LSU on Oct. 10, Vanderbilt on Oct. 24 and Florida on Nov. 14. Lights left on, or a cold night on an old battery, and the car just clicks. A jump start fixes that right where you're parked.

A few more Rupp Arena details from the venue and LexPark:

  • Most Rupp Arena events have a parking fee, and the paid lots don't take cash.
  • The Rupp Arena lot sits on West High Street.
  • Downtown meters run Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., unless a sign says otherwise. They're free on weekends and holidays.
  • The 350 West Short Garage is open 24 hours.

How do I keep a game-day breakdown from turning into a tow?

Start with the smallest fix that could work.

  • Car clicks or won't crank, and you're on campus. UK lists free on-campus jump starts for permit holders, campus patients and visitors, at any hour.
  • Car clicks off campus or downtown. Ask for a jump before a tow.
  • Keys locked inside after tailgating. That's a lockout, not a tow.
  • Flat tire and a good spare. Your driver can put the spare on.
  • Won't move, leaking, or smoking. That's a real tow. Pick the drop-off spot before you call.

If you do need a tow, think about where it's going. On a night game, many shops are closed. A tow home tonight and to the shop on Monday might make more sense than a tow to a closed lot.

What should I ask for on a Kentucky tow?

Kentucky law backs you up on a few points, game day or any day.

  • On a roadside tow, the company must show you its rate sheet at the scene, or any time you ask.
  • It can't make you agree to more than 24 hours of storage, or to repair work, just to get towed.
  • It can't take your car to a repair shop unless you said yes before the car left.

Ask for the rate sheet if the price isn't clear. Don't sign up for storage or repairs you didn't ask for.

How does Sentinel price a game-day call?

Sentinel Towing is a towing and roadside network. A vetted local partner tow company does the job. You tell us where the car is, what you drive, what's wrong and where it should go. We text you a price before anyone is sent. That price is the most you pay for the job. If the job changes, we text a new price first, and you decide. Then we stay with you by text until help arrives. That's our Stay-With-You Promise. If anyone is hurt, call 911 first. Sentinel isn't an emergency service.

UK Game Day Tow Questions

Will my car get towed if I leave it near Kroger Field on game day?

It can. UK clears several lots before home games, and a car that isn't moved can be ticketed or impounded. Nearby streets have also had game-day no-parking rules. Read the signs and move your car before the deadline.

Who do I call if my car was towed from a UK lot?

UK's parking page lists UK Transportation Services at 859-257-5757 for cars that may have been impounded from UK lots, garages or property. Sentinel doesn't do impounds or recover impounded cars.

My battery died after a night game. Do I need a tow?

Probably not. A jump start fixes most dead batteries where the car is parked. On campus, UK lists free jump starts for permit holders, patients and visitors. If the car still won't start, then think about a tow.

Does game traffic change my Sentinel price?

Your price is texted to you before anyone is sent, and that's the most you pay for the job. If the job itself changes, you get a new price by text first and decide.

Rules change, so check the official source before you rely on it.
