What Changes a Tow Price Along Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs

On Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs, the biggest thing that moves a tow price is distance. Powers runs the whole east side, from Black Forest down to Fountain. Your shop or your home may be miles away from where the car quit. Where it stopped, what kind of vehicle it is and what went wrong matter next. You get the price by text and say yes before any truck heads out.

Why does a breakdown on Powers cost more than one downtown?

Powers Boulevard is State Highway 21. It is a long north to south road on the far east side of the city. It passes Peterson Space Force Base and the Colorado Springs Airport.

The trouble is that your car rarely breaks down near the place it needs to go. Say it dies near Peterson Space Force Base, but your mechanic is on the west side. Your driver has to reach you, load the car and then haul it across town. Every extra mile is part of the job.

A car that stalls a few blocks from its shop is a short trip. A car that stalls at the far end of Powers, headed for a shop near downtown, is a long one. Same tow, different miles, different price.

What does Colorado law say about tow charges?

When you ask for a tow yourself, Colorado calls it a consensual tow. A common example is calling to have your stuck car taken to a repair shop.

Colorado's legislative staff sums up the rule in plain terms. Before a consensual tow, the towing carrier must tell you all the rates and charges for the tow. That includes the expected charge for mileage, any storage and any extra work. The Public Utilities Commission oversees tow carriers, and every carrier needs a state permit.

The state's capped tow rates are a different thing. Those apply to tows ordered by police or a property owner, not a tow you call for. So the price for a tow you request comes down to the job itself. That is why the miles matter so much on a road as long as Powers.

Where is my car going after the tow?

Answer this before you call. It changes your price more than anything else.

  • Your own mechanic. Know the shop name and the nearest cross street. Call the shop to make sure it can take the car today.
  • Your home. Good if the car can wait in your driveway. Tell us if the street or driveway is steep or tight.
  • The nearest open shop. Often the shortest haul from the east side. Ask the shop to confirm it has room.
  • A dealer for your make. Fine if your warranty needs it, but it may be farther away.

Give us both spots on the call: where the car sits now and where it should end up. Your price is built on that trip.

What else moves the price on Powers?

Distance comes first. These come next:

  • Where the car stopped. A wide shoulder is a simple load. A spot right in a ramp, a median or a work zone takes more care.
  • Your vehicle. A small sedan and a light pickup may need different trucks. Partners handle cars, SUVs, minivans and light pickups. No big rigs, RVs or trailers.
  • What went wrong. A dead battery or a flat may not need a tow at all.
  • Snow and ice. A car that slid off the road may need a winch-out before it can be loaded.

Is there construction at Powers and Airport Road?

Yes, though it is close to done. The Colorado Department of Transportation built a new interchange at Powers Boulevard and Airport Road. It is near Peterson Space Force Base and the Colorado Springs Airport. Work started in June 2024. Airport Road now goes over Powers on a bridge.

CDOT says more than 50,000 travelers pass through that area each day. In late September 2026, it said the work was substantially complete. Lane closures and traffic shifts may still pop up through October.

A stall in a work zone is harder to reach. Barrels and shifted lanes leave less room to load a car. If you break down near Airport Road, tell us which way you were headed and whether cones are around you. Check COtrip for closures before you head out.

How do I tell my driver where I am on Powers?

Powers is long, and "on Powers" covers a lot of ground. Clear details help your driver find you fast and keep the price right.

  • Say north or south. Powers runs north and south, so your direction matters.
  • Name the last cross street you passed, like Airport Road, Research Parkway or Woodmen Road.
  • Say if you're on a ramp or on the main road. It changes how your driver comes in.
  • Drop a pin from your phone's map app and text it when we ask.
  • On the base or at the airport? Tell us. Ask base security if an outside tow truck can come in. If not, we need the nearest public street.

What if it snows while I wait on Powers?

Snow is part of life here, and March is often the snowiest month. CDOT plows state highways inside the city, like Powers and I-25. Look for orange trucks.

If you're stopped on the shoulder, stay in your car with your belt on. Turn on your hazard lights. Colorado's move-over law, C.R.S. 42-4-705, covers a stopped car with its hazards on. Drivers must move over a lane when they can, or slow down.

Don't spin your tires if you slid off. It digs the car in deeper and can turn a winch-out into a harder job. If anyone is hurt, or your car is stuck in a live lane, call 911 first.

Can a smaller job replace the tow?

Lots of calls from the east side are small problems. Fix it where the car sits, and there is no long haul.

How does Sentinel price a job on Powers?

Sentinel Towing is a towing and roadside network. We don't own trucks. A vetted local partner tow company does the work. Tell us where the car is, where it's going and what went wrong. We text your price before dispatch, and that price is the most you pay for the job. If the job changes, we text a new price first and you decide. Then we stay with you by text until the truck arrives. That's our Stay-With-You Promise. You can also track your truck on a map.

For weather and the areas we cover, see our Colorado Springs towing page. We don't do impounds or private-property tows. If your car was towed away and you need it back, read our Colorado Springs impound guide.

Powers Boulevard Tow Price Questions

Why is my tow from Powers more than my friend's tow downtown?

Most of the time it's the miles. Powers is far from many shops, so the haul is longer. Where the car stopped and what broke can add to it too.

Does Colorado cap the price of a tow I call for?

The state's rate caps cover tows ordered by police or a property owner. For a tow you ask for, the carrier must tell you the rates and charges first, including mileage. With us, that price comes by text before dispatch.

Will my price go up when the driver gets there?

Not unless the job itself changes. If it does, we text you a new price first. You decide before any extra work starts.

Can I save money by getting a jump instead of a tow?

If the battery is the only problem, yes. A jump start skips the haul across town. If the car won't start after a jump, you can still book the tow.
