Towing in Moncton: Wheeler Boulevard, Route 2 and Route 15

Moncton sits at the bend of the Petitcodiac River, right where roads from Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Saint John and Fredericton come together. That makes it a crossroads. Here's how the main roads fit together, so you can tell us where you are.

Wheeler Boulevard

Inside the city, Route 15 runs as Wheeler Boulevard, an internal ring road from the Petitcodiac River Causeway to Dieppe. It's an expressway with a traffic circle at each end. If your car quits inside a traffic circle, don't try to push it out. Hazards on, stay in your seat and call. A tow gets it out of the circle.

Route 2, the Trans-Canada

Moncton lies on Route 2, the Trans-Canada, which leads east to Nova Scotia and west to Fredericton and Quebec. About 15 km west of town, Route 1 splits off toward Saint John and the U.S. border. Tell us which side of that split you're on.

Route 15 and Route 16 to the shore

On the eastern outskirts, Route 15 leaves Route 2 and heads northeast to Shediac. At Shediac, Route 16 picks up toward Strait Shores and Prince Edward Island. Out of gas on the way back from the beach? Ask for fuel delivery instead of a tow.

The causeway to Riverview

The Petitcodiac causeway links Moncton and Riverview. If you stall on it, stay in the car and tell us which way you were crossing.

Maritime winter

Nor'easters, Freezing Rain and Fog

Moncton's big snowfalls come from nor'easters moving up the coast. They often bring 20 to 30 cm at a time, and they're frequently mixed with rain or freezing rain. The stormiest stretch of the year usually runs from November to mid-January.

That mix is rough on cars:

  • Ice under slush. Freezing rain glazes the road, then snow hides it. If you slide into the ditch and the car isn't damaged, a winch-out may get you back on the road.
  • Frozen doors. Freezing rain can seal doors and locks shut. Don't force a frozen lock with the key. If the keys end up locked inside, that's a car lockout.
  • Fog. Moncton's airport logs fog on about 47 days a year. In fog, pull fully off the road if you stop. Hazards on.
  • Cold starts. January nights average about minus 14 C at the airport. A weak battery may need a jump start.

New Brunswick's Half-Speed Rule

New Brunswick's Motor Vehicle Act treats a tow truck as a service vehicle. When one is stopped on a highway with its amber light flashing, drivers on that side of the road must cut their speed to half the posted limit and pass with caution. On a highway with two or more lanes their way, drivers in the same or next lane must also move over if they can do it safely. The rule is in section 168.1 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

On a 100 km/h highway, that means 50 km/h. That's a big slowdown, and it's what keeps your driver safe while they hook up your car. Before a winter drive, check New Brunswick 511 for conditions.

Once your driver is on the way, you get their name, photo and truck by text. You can track the truck on a map, and we check on you until it arrives.

Moncton Towing Questions

I'm driving to P.E.I. and broke down near Shediac. Can you help?

Call and tell us the nearest exit or community on Route 15 or 16. We'll tell you right away which partner can reach you and text you the price before anyone is sent.

My car won't start at the Moncton airport after a trip. Do I need a tow?

Maybe not. If it clicks or the dash lights are weak, it's likely the battery, and a jump may do it. If it cranks but won't catch, plan on a tow to a shop.

Can you tow my car to a garage in Dieppe or Riverview?

Yes. Tell us which garage. The price you get by text is the most you pay, even if the final bill comes in higher. That's the Stay-With-You Promise.

Is it safe to wait outside the car in a snowstorm?

Usually it's safer inside, belted in, with hazards on. Keep the tailpipe clear of snow if you run the engine for heat. If you're in a live lane or smell smoke, get out, move well away and call 911.

Tow Truck and Roadside Services in Moncton

Sentinel is a 24-hour towing and roadside assistance network for Moncton drivers. Tell us what happened, and we send a vetted local towing company near you with a truck suited to the job: a tow truck for a car that can't be driven (a flatbed where the vehicle needs one, like many all-wheel-drive cars), or a service truck for a jump start, lockout, flat tire, fuel delivery or winch-out.

The Sentinel Stay-With-You Promise

Seven Promises on Every Moncton Call

Read the fine print on the promise page.

  1. We stay with you. From your call until the truck arrives, we check on you by text.

  2. See your driver before they arrive. You get their name, photo and truck by text, and you can track your truck on a map.

  3. Your family knows too. Give us one number, and we text them your location and arrival time.

  4. Photo-protected tow. Before hookup, your driver photographs all 4 sides of your vehicle. We text you the photos.

  5. Price locked by text. You get your price by text before we dispatch. That price is the most you pay for the job. If the job changes, we text a new price first and you decide.

  6. Never stranded after. Ride along in the truck when it's safe and allowed, or we help you get a ride. We also point you to a good repair shop.

  7. Free Sentinel Circle. After your first job, your vehicle is on file. Next time, just text "TOW" for priority dispatch.
