Near the I-69 and US 127 interchange, north of Lansing in DeWitt Township, the biggest thing in your tow price is the haul. Your car has to ride from that cloverleaf to the shop you pick. A shop in DeWitt or East Lansing is close. A shop in REO Town, south of downtown, is a much longer trip. What went wrong, how the car sits and which ramp you're on matter too. You get the exact price by text before anyone is sent.

Where is the I-69 and US 127 interchange?

It sits northeast of Lansing, just over the line into Clinton County. The township is DeWitt Township. On US 127, it's exit 82. Signs split it into 82A for I-69 east toward Flint and 82B for I-69 west toward Grand Rapids. On I-69, the same cloverleaf is exit 89.

Here's the layout around it:

  • South on US 127: Lake Lansing Road is exit 79, about 3 miles down. Grand River Avenue and Saginaw Street share exit 78.
  • North on US 127: Round Lake Road in DeWitt is exit 86.
  • West on I-69: the freeway runs past the north side of Capital Region International Airport to meet I-96.
  • East on I-69: Webster Road in Bath is exit 92. Then it passes Park Lake and reaches exit 94, just north of Lake Lansing.

So "I broke down at 127 and 69" can mean six different roads. Tell us which one, and which way you were going.

Why does a tow from here cost more than one in REO Town?

It's mostly the miles to your drop-off. Say your car quits on South Washington Avenue in REO Town. Your shop is nearby, so the haul is short.

Now say it quits on the ramp from US 127 to I-69. Your shop is the same one in REO Town. The car has to ride south on US 127 for about 5 miles just to reach the I-496 split near the Red Cedar River. Then it still has to cross the city to get past downtown. Same truck, same hookup. Far more road.

It works the other way too. If you live in DeWitt and your mechanic is near Round Lake Road, a breakdown at the interchange may be a short haul. The cloverleaf doesn't set the price. The trip from your car to your shop does.

What else goes into a tow price near the interchange?

Every tow is priced by the job in front of it. Here's what changes it:

  • The haul. Miles from your car to the address you choose.
  • The trip to reach you. A driver coming from the far side may have to loop around through the cloverleaf.
  • Where the car sits. A wide shoulder, a tight ramp and a ditch are three different jobs.
  • What went wrong. A car that won't roll is more work than a dead battery.
  • What you drive. A compact car and an all-wheel-drive pickup need different setups.

Does the ramp you're on matter?

It can. A cloverleaf has loops and short merges. If your car dies on a loop ramp, there's little room to work. Your driver may need to come in from a set direction to reach you. When you call, name the ramp: "on the ramp from northbound 127 to westbound 69" is perfect.

How is the 2026 US 127 rebuild changing tows here?

MDOT is rebuilding US 127 from just south of Lake Lansing Road north to I-69. Work started March 16, 2026. MDOT's estimated end is mid-November 2026. The job covers pavement, bridges, drainage, signs and sound walls.

On April 28, MDOT shifted traffic onto the southbound side of US 127 in that stretch. Most of the time, one southbound lane and two northbound lanes stay open. MDOT says the shift needs lane and ramp closures in both directions between Saginaw Street and I-69.

That matters for price in two ways. First, a closed ramp can force your driver to go around to reach you. Second, a work zone often has a narrow shoulder or none at all. A car stuck in a lane with barrels on both sides is a harder job than a car on a wide shoulder.

Is I-69 under work too?

Yes. MDOT is patching concrete on I-69 from US 127 east to the Shiawassee County line, near DeWitt and Bath. It started September 8, 2026, with an estimated end of November 15, 2026. Expect one lane closed in each direction. Before you drive, check Mi Drive for live closures and cameras.

Can you leave the car on the shoulder and come back?

Only for a short time. Michigan law says you can't stop on a limited access freeway unless it's an emergency or a breakdown. A breakdown counts, so you're allowed to be there while you get help.

But don't leave it. US 127 and I-69 are state trunk lines. On those, a car with a valid plate counts as abandoned after 18 hours. Police can then have it towed. If the car blocks traffic or makes a hazard, police can have it removed right away, at the owner's cost. Sentinel doesn't do impounds, and getting a police tow back adds a second trip. Calling for your own tow early is the simpler path.

What if it was a crash?

If anyone is hurt, or your car is stuck in a live lane, call 911 first. Sentinel is not an emergency service. If no one is badly hurt and the car still drives safely, Michigan law says to move it out of the traffic lanes, onto the shoulder or off the road. Skipping that is a civil infraction.

Is it a tow, or a smaller job?

Not every stop near the interchange needs a haul. Lansing's airport station logs about 143 nights a year at or below 32 F, per NOAA normals. Your battery dies after a cold night in a lot off Lake Lansing Road. The dash lights flicker and the engine clicks. That's often a jump start right where you are, with no miles to a shop.

If the car lost power while driving, made a loud noise or won't roll, plan on a car tow. Tell us honestly what happened. A clear story gets you a price that fits the real job.

How can you keep the price down?

  1. Choose your drop-off first. Have the shop's name and street address ready.
  2. Think close. A good shop near the interchange cuts the haul the most.
  3. Name your road and direction. "Westbound I-69 past the US 127 ramps" beats "near 69."
  4. Mention the work zone. Say if you're between the barrels or near a closed ramp.
  5. Describe the car. Make, model, all-wheel drive or not, and whether it rolls.

While you wait, how do you stay safe?

Turn on your hazard lights. If you can get off the road at the next exit, do it. If you're stuck on the shoulder, stay buckled in with the doors locked unless the car is in danger. Never stand between your car and traffic. Michigan's move-over law tells drivers to slow to at least 10 mph under the limit and move over for flashing lights, but in a work zone they may have nowhere to go.

How does Sentinel price a tow at 127 and 69?

Sentinel Towing is a towing and roadside network, not a tow company. A vetted local partner tow company does the work. You tell us the road, the ramp, the car and the drop-off. We text your price before dispatch, and that price is the most you pay for the job. If the job changes, we text a new price first and you decide. Then we check on you by text until your driver arrives. That's the Stay-With-You Promise. For other roads around the capital, see our Lansing towing page.

I-69 and US 127 Tow Price Questions

Why is my tow from 127 and 69 priced higher than a tow downtown?

It's usually the haul. The interchange is north of Lansing in Clinton County. If your shop is south of downtown, the car rides a long way. Pick a shop closer to the interchange and the price can drop.

What exit is the I-69 and US 127 interchange?

On US 127 it's exit 82, split into 82A for Flint and 82B for Grand Rapids. On I-69 it's exit 89. Give us whichever road you were on and your direction.

Will the US 127 construction make my tow cost more?

It can make some jobs longer. Ramp closures and narrow work zones can force your driver to go around. The price we text already counts the route. Once you accept it, it won't go up unless the job changes, and then you decide.

Can I leave my car on the I-69 shoulder overnight?

It's risky. On a state trunk line like I-69, Michigan law calls a car with a valid plate abandoned after 18 hours. Police can then have it towed. If it blocks traffic, they can move it sooner.
